RACE FOR LITERACY 2009

The United Way Day of Caring is the regions largest volunteer project. With over 1,700 volunteers and hundreds of agency and individual projects. The United Way Day of Caring is an outstanding opportunity for Community Partners to come together to show what being a good neighbor is all about! Day of Caring raises awareness about the work of human service organizations in Hampton Roads while mobilizing hte volunteer potential of Our Community.

Each year, the United Way in Isle of Wight has convened over 150 volunteers from Dominion Surry Power Station, Smithfield Packing, IOW County employees and community volunteers to accomplish over 25 projects. We need your organization to extend a helping hand to those in need and help us impact the needs of Isle of Wight County!

United Way will be sponsoring an Isle of Wight Day of Caring at Windsor Middle School on Friday, August 21, 2009. We will be improving the atmosphere for hte students to learn and thrive within. This will be achieved by many projects in and around the school, including seating for outdoor activities, murals, gardening an dmore. Education is extremely important to today's youth; these projects will create an encouraging environment for our younger generation.

Sponsorships are considered for cash/check donations as well as gifts in-kind toward any of the community projects! Donations are also tax deductible.

Sign your organization up to VOLUNTEER or sponsor your own project or give what you can; a gallon of paint, a box of nails or providing lunch for volunteer workers goes a long way when you are helping someone in need!

If you are interested in volunteering for hte 2009 United Way Day of Caring, Please contact Jordan Hall, United Way (757) 539-1498 or jhall@unitedwayshr.org for more information.
